Timber framers

Maybe you heard of these timber framers. They make these wonderful handcrafted projects, both in commercial, and residential for your lovely home. Their focus is the frame, which is visible and so very beautiful. I myself adore their work, and I enjoy home architecture, so this really appeals to me.

With accomplishments as impressive as these guys have done, it is hard to imagine the amount of time it takes to do this highly skilled art form. They still do residential work, but also engineer and build timber frames for churches, hotels, barns, welcome centers, state parks, museums and summer camps. Some of these are just mind boggling, using 60 foot hewn timber to create arches and such, its just amazing. They recommend to all their clients to use craftsmen with excellent reputations and list some on their site.

Do It Yourself

Many people in America especially men, tend to be project oriented, even more so when you consider their homes and land. Most people have an improvement or two they want to do with their property. Whether for pure enjoyment or to improve the estates worth many people start a home project everyday. Its a god way for a family to come together in an activity, and the new improvement will then bear stories that are sharable with family and friends and new generations.

As many people that start these home improvements only a few have the genuine knowledge and expertise to actually accomplish what they set out to do, and many will bite off more than they can chew. Theres a bad side to that, because abandoning a project is bad for the spirit, and calling in a contractor to clean up your mes is often more expensive than hiring one from the start.

There is also the injury factor. People unskilled in tools will have a higher chance of getting injured in their use. The professionals that use those tools everyday will know why they are dangerous and be effective in their use and safety requirements.

There is also the time factor. Some big projects like, build wood cabinets would be an extensive project, but there are resources that allow you to learn from the pros and avoid critical and costly mistakes. After all, knowledge is power.

Judge Removed

Filed under:Controversial — posted by Tom on @ 5:19 pm

A federal appeals court has once again removed a judge from a case. They did  so for failing to state why he gave a pair of brothers a lower than recommended sentence.

This is the third time this has happened to this judge in the last couple of years. He has failed to explain why he deviated from US sentencing guidelines.

(Uh oh! Someone is thinking independently!!!)

The appeals court has referred to this as “disturbing evidence of willfulness”. The appeals court ordered the judge to reconsider his sentence, and again he did not explain himself. The appeals court reassigned the case to another judge.

The defense counsel tried to help the judge by writing up a reason for him, but the appellate court knew it wasn’t the judges reasoning.

Parents Convicted

The sentence could have been much worse for the parents that allowed a drinking party for teens in their home.  Two of the kids died in a car crash that was caused by their drunken driving.

Mr and Mrs Hutsell were looking at up to a year in jail but in the end got much less than that. Both parents got 30 day work release deals, and half of his sentence and all of her sentence were suspended. They received probation, some fines, and a lot of community service.

The judge felt the guilt they will live with will be harm enough, that coupled with the fact they are open to be held liable in tort…

this seems to have woke all parents in the city up. maybe now they will pay attention to what their kids are doing.

Illegal Raids

Filed under:Ethics — posted by Tom on @ 6:11 pm

US immigration authorities are conducting raids without warrants, kicking in the doors of homes where hispanics live and hoping someone is living in America illegally. This is happening in NYC mostly.

15 people have filed a class action lawsuit in response claiming their rights are being violated, specifically the fourth amendment.

In once incident, the feds bust into a home scaring the women and children, looking for illegals, and everyone was a citizen. Now try to convince those young kids that the men kicking in the door at 3 am with guns are the good guys. Yeah i somehow don’t think alot of illegals are hiding in East Hampton.

The suit seeks punitive damages and an injunction to prevent further raids until they get a genuine system to prevent further rights violations.
