Is there a murder if theres no body?

In Oakland California prosecutors are attempting to try a man for the murder of his wife, but get this, theres no body. Supposedly the wife went missing after dropping the kids off at his home to go grocery shopping and no one has heard from her since. Police found traces of her blood on the passenger side of his vehicle. The seat was missing, and there was water all over the floor, which would suggest some sort of foul play, but it doesn’t prove that she is dead.

The defense is saying that its possible the wife went back to Russia and is secretly living there. The children are now in Russia with their grandmother, so who’s to say that wasn’t the plan all along?
