1,000 fine is for the birds
In New York City, there is talk of instating a 1,000 fine for feeding the pigeons. Local government is using is as a way to control the pigeon population, as well as looking into various other ways to rid the city of their fine feathered pests. Pigeon poop contains chemicals that can break down major city structural components such as steel and concrete. That, coupled with the fact that the average pigeon drops about 25 pounds of poop a year, has made the mayor of NYC step into action. While the ban hasn’t been enforced as of yet, the city is taking serious action.
