Self Esteem
Todays teenagers may have more stress, and self esteem issues than they did in generations past, or maybe we are simply more aware of it. Stress can come from any source, with varying intensity. Things that are handled easily by some kids may induce feelings of panic or feelings of low self worth in others.
Some causes of stress and anxiety are things like taking tests. Other teens are affected vastly by relationships. These relationships can be with peers, the opposite sex, or teachers and coaches. “Fitting in” can be difficult. Popularity is a contributing factor to this, and some teens feel that they are not worth any of this. Grades can generate feelings of failure which in turn will fuel low self esteem.
As adults, its our duty to not let teenagers suffer through this. We must be aware of the things causing them stress, anxiety and low self esteem. Show them how to identify it, and then work to solve the issues and over come the negative effects. Stress can get so severe that it causes physical problems. Together improving teen self esteem is a reality.
